Don’t Let Your Pond Look Like the Reflecting Pool!

The Washington reflecting pool has suffered from extreme algae problems for quite some time, long before Trump. In fact it has suffered from algae blooms since its creation in 1922.

It is a shallow pond with little aeration. The sunlight enters the pond and penetrates easily all the way to the bottom and when the weather gets hot, here comes the algae!

Now, as a pond owner, you no doubt don’t suffer with such shallow depths as the reflecting pool. Still, aeration is needed to keep the pond healthy. Natural aeration is created by wind across the pond water’s surface. But it is usually not enough.

So floating pond fountains are often used. The technology is simple. A pump is suspended by a float. On top of the float and connected to the pump is a nozzle.

Fountain Tech tries to achieve the most amount of aeration for the least cost to the customer by using large nozzles with larges holes in them to maximize the flow of water into the air, where oxygen is mixed with the water bubbles and then falls back into the pond.

We tend to not emphasize motor horsepower but instead flow rate. That is what matters when it comes to aeration. How much water is entering the air outside of the pond and falling back down oxygentated into the pond. Also, we don’t like to emphasize horsepower because horsepower ratings are all over the map. Many companies advertize high horsepower motors because they are using input horsepower, that is how much energy is going to the pump, rather than output horsepower, how much energy is going out of the pump. That is the measure that really matters.

We also like to include light kits. We sell pumps with a flow rate of 14000 gallons per hour with a light kit with a 2-year warranty for under $1,000. That’s right. This is a high quality system. The lights are manufactured to fit our floats. Each unit comes with three nozzles for various displays and amounts of aeration. The LED light fixtures are made of stainless steel.
